Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Children's Respite Appeal?
The Limerick Respite Appeal is a fundraising campaign by Respect, the Lisnagry Assocation Limerick and Avista to build a new children’s respite home for Avista in Annacotty, Limerick. This facility will provide essential respite care for children with complex needs, doubling current capacity and significantly reducing wait times for families in need.
Why is this project important?
Many families of children with intellectual disabilities struggle to access respite care due to long waitlists and limited availability. This new home will offer an essential service where children can receive high-quality care while giving their families the much-needed rest and support to retain the family unit.
Does a similar facility currently exist?
Avista has an existing respite house, San Joseph located on the Ballysimon Road. However the current size and capacity available in the house do not adequately meet the demand for respite. The proposed new house will replace this house (with no break in service).
What difference will this new house make?
Bed nights available will increase significantly from 842 currently on offer to 2,142. We estimate that the new house will cut in half Avista’s current waiting list in the process.
Where will the respite house be located?
The Daughters of Charity have very kindly donated land in the vicinity of Avista’s St. Vincent’s Lisnagry Campus in Annacotty, accessed from the R506.
What stage is the project at currently?
We have received approved planning permission as of December 2024 and are now in the process of securing funding to successfully bring this project to life and begin construction.
How much money is needed?
We need to raise €2,100,000 to begin construction.
Can businesses or corporate sponsors get involved?
Yes! We welcome all corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and workplace giving programs. Companies can also match employee donations or host fundraising events.
